Merry Christmas to everyone in Twins Territory!! As some of you might know, I pay particular close attention to the jersey numbers worn by the players and have been known to buy a few of them myself. No matter what happens on the field the name on the front is always more important than the one on the back. I have a few good sources who shared some information with me and it was confirmed by the Twins President on Twitter over the last week. Here are some notable changes taking place for a few of the players in 2012.
Jamey Carroll will wear jersey No. 8.
Ryan Doumit will wear jersey No. 18.
Josh Willingham will wear jersey No. 16.
Jason Marquis will wear jersey No. 21.
Update: Joel Zumaya will wear jersey No. 54.
Danny Valencia will switch from No. 19 and now wear jersey No. 22.
Most people probably find the above changes boring but it has not been posted anywhere as of yet. I can't imagine anything worse for fans who buy a jersey only to watch a player change their number or leave the team as a free agent. This happened to many people when Justin Morneau switched from No. 27 to 33 and for me when Carlos Gomez was traded. Please feel free to leave me any comments because your opinion matters to me.

With the departure of Cuddyer, I'm trying to figure out what to do with my 5 jersey... Remove the Cuddyer lettering and have my own name sewn over the 5? Probably the best option. Going to miss Cuddy, hopefully the 2012 Twins find a way to bounce back from the 99 loss season.
Baseballpaul,
I would wait to do anything with your jersey just yet. I have a feeling Joe Benson might just take No. 5 this season. He is about a 3-4 months away from being a full time player. There have been some comparisons between the two and there is a good chance he could select that number.
Another thing you could do is bring it to the Twins Pro Shop and have Cuddyer's name removed and put on Smalley. It would be a easy switch they both wore jersey No. 5 and each have 7 letters in their last name. Roy Smalley player for 13 seasons and 10 of them were with the Twins. He is also a broadcaster and lives in the state. No shame at all wearing his jersey. Let me know what you decide to do?
I'm curious whether the clubhouse staff is going to assign number 5 out right away. Not that I think it needs to be retired or anything, but sometimes there's some downtime for a specific number when a long-tenured player leaves.
I think Benson would be a good fit for it, though. I liked what I saw of him in New Britain last season (though he has some work left to do!).
I still want a #25 Alexi Casilla jersey.
