Twins Sign Ryan Doumit.
The Twins have agreed to sign Ryan Doumit to a one-year, $3 million deal with incentives. The contract will be finalized after he takes a physical exam. Doumit is only 30 but has struggled to stay healthy at times. This is most likely the reason why the Twins managed to get him so cheap. Doumit is a switch hitter with power from both sides of the plate. He is a career .271/.334/.442 hitter with 67 HRs and 266 RBIs in 7 seasons playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was a Type B free agent and it is unknown if the Twins will have to relinguish a draft pick yet. The best thing about this signing is the versatility of Doumit. He can play multiple positions including catcher, 1B, right field, or DH. He is not a very good defender but makes up for it with his stick. Make no mistake about it, this was an insurance policy for the health of Mauer and Morneau. Nobody really knows what to expect from either of them in 2012.
Today was the last day to add minor league prospects to the 40-man roster or risk losing them in the Rule 5 draft. The Twins added RH pitcher Carlos Gutierrez, outfielder Oswaldo Arcia, and LH pitcher Tyler Robertson to the roster and removed RH pitcher David Bromberg. The Twins also signed former Angels reliever Jason Bulger to a minor-league deal. It was a busy day in Twins Territory. Please feel free to leave me any comments because your opinion matters to me.
